«Juan Salvador Gaviota» is the short novel by Richard Bach, published by Pomaire in hardback (93 pages, in Spanish).
The protagonist, Juan Salvador Gaviota, is a nonconformist seagull who prefers to practice risky flights rather than devote himself to the routine of searching for food. His stubbornness to fly higher and faster leads him to discover that authentic freedom is achieved by mastering the technique of flight and teaching others.
The work was originally published as «Jonathan Livingston Seagull» in 1970. This Spanish edition (Barcelona, 1981) includes the translation by Carol and Frederick Howell and photographs by Jordi Olavarrieta.
This book is suitable for teenagers and adults seeking a short tale with a philosophical background and an inspiring read.
Richard David Bach is an American writer. He has written numerous flight-related works of fiction and non-fiction. His works include Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970) and Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah (1977), both of which were among the 1970s' biggest sellers.
