«Golf Dreams» is John Updike's collection of essays on golf, published by Penguin in paperback (224 pages, in English).
John Updike, writer and golfer, brings together in this volume around thirty pieces: essays, reviews and fragments of fiction that appeared in the press, including passages from Rabbit Angstrom. With humour and irony, Updike reflects on how he learned to play, his way of understanding the game and the fascination this sport provokes.
The collection originally appeared in 1996; this Penguin Books edition dates from 1998.
For golfers and readers of literary essays who want to see the sport through the eyes of a novelist.
John Hoyer Updike was an American novelist, poet, short-story writer, art critic, and literary critic. One of only four writers to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once, Updike published more than twenty novels, more than a dozen short-story collections, as well as poetry, art and literary criticism and children's books during his career.
