«Elogio de la locura» is the satirical essay by Erasmus of Rotterdam, published by Orbis in hardback (170 pages, in Spanish).
Folly, personified as an orator, praises herself and ironically reviews the customs and trades of her time: scholars, theologians, princes and clerics appear guided by foolishness. The speech becomes a satire of intellectual pride and ecclesiastical hierarchies, and vindicates a simpler wisdom closer to life.
Work originally published under the title Moriae Encomium; this edition belongs to the Biblioteca de clásicos universales collection and includes the translation by Oliver Nortes Valls.
For readers of philosophy and classical literature interested in social satire and Renaissance humanist thought.
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, commonly known in English as Erasmus of Rotterdam or simply Erasmus, was a Dutch humanist, Catholic theologian, and pioneering philologist and educationalist. He was, through his writings and translations, one of the most influential scholars of the Northern Renaissance and a major figure of Western culture.
