«Elogio de la locura» is the satirical essay by humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam, published by Planeta DeAgostini in paperback (208 pages, in Spanish).
In this satirical work, Folly proclaims herself the source of all joy and happiness and takes the floor to criticise the customs and beliefs of the society of her time. With an ingenious and mordant style, Erasmus uses that voice to invite reflection on the human condition and to vindicate the role of reason and wisdom.
The work dates from 1511; this Spanish edition was published on 21 February 2002. It is also known as «Elogio de la locura o encomio de la estulticia».
A work for readers of philosophy and literature, with an interest in social satire and the classics of humanism.
Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, commonly known in English as Erasmus of Rotterdam or simply Erasmus, was a Dutch humanist, Catholic theologian, and pioneering philologist and educationalist. He was, through his writings and translations, one of the most influential scholars of the Northern Renaissance and a major figure of Western culture.
