«El Escorial: La magia de un lugar» is the historical essay by José María Calvo Andrés, published by Editorial Creación in hardback (112 pages, in Spanish).
The book explores the history and nature of the Royal Site of El Escorial to explain its magic and cultural weight. It alternates the chronicle of the monument with personal reflections and evokes writers and artists —from the Archpriest of Hita to Antonio Machado, from Velázquez to Hemingway— who found inspiration in this place.
First edition (2009), published in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), with 12 illustrations.
A read for those interested in the history, art and cultural heritage of Spain, from a literary and personal perspective on El Escorial.
