«Educación y ciudadanía en una sociedad democrática» is the essay edited by Montserrat Herrero and Concepción Naval (Ediciones Encuentro, paperback).
Starting from questions such as what it means to be a citizen in a democracy and what ideal of citizenship should be promoted, several Spanish intellectuals analyse from an interdisciplinary perspective the role of education in civic formation and debate whether education for citizenship can lead to a manipulation of consciences.
First Spanish edition of 2006, 272 pages, volume 281 of the Ensayo collection; includes texts by Francisco Altarejos, Rafael Alvira, José María Barrio and Alejandro Llano, among others.
For educators, parents and readers interested in the role of education in civic formation and in debates about democracy.
