«Blue Skies and Black Olives» is the memoir by John and Christopher Humphrys, published by Hodder Paperback in paperback (288 pages, in English).
Acting on impulse, John Humphrys buys a semi-ruined house and a plot of land overlooking the Aegean Sea, planning to build a villa with his son Christopher. The project becomes a series of baffling incidents: neighbours claiming olive trees, a peacock, rats, and builders of dubious skill. Between humour and exasperation, father and son portray life in a Greek community.
The work originally appeared in 2009; this edition was published in April 2010. The subtitle on the cover is «A Survivor's Tale of Housebuilding and Peacock Chasing in Greece».
It will appeal to those seeking travel memoirs with humour and a practical look at living and building abroad, particularly in Greece.
