«The Velvet Rope» is the album by Janet Jackson, released by Virgin on CD (1997).
After the polished public image of her previous work, Janet Jackson ventures into more intimate territory, exploring pain, vulnerability and liberation through a fusion of R&B, funk, soul and electronic music. The production combines spoken interludes with danceable tracks and ballads, and features collaborations with Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell. Among the standout tracks are «Got 'Til It's Gone», «Together Again» and «I Get Lonely».
Recommended for fans of nineties R&B and of the artist's more personal and experimental side.
