«Les Carabiniers» is the film by Jean-Luc Godard (1963), starring Marino Masé, Albert Juross and Geneviève Galéa, on DVD.
Two poor, illiterate peasants leave their hut to serve the king, seduced by the promise of riches and adventure. In war they loot and kill with an innocence that clashes with the brutality of the conflict. Godard composes a scathing satire on greed, innocence and manipulation.
