«El Verdugo» is the film by Luis García Berlanga (1963), starring Nino Manfredi, José Luis López Vázquez and Alfredo Landa, on DVD.
The old executioner Amadeo, about to retire, gets a home for his daughter Carmen and her husband José Luis, an employee of a funeral home, but the grant depends on the son-in-law inheriting the trade. José Luis accepts believing he won't have to practise it; Berlanga's cinema turns the wait for an execution into a satire on Francoist Spain.
Edition by Video Mercury Films, S.A. with Dolby Digital PAL mono sound in Spanish, 1.77:1 image format and 90 minutes running time. Not recommended for under-18s.
For adults interested in classic Spanish cinema and social satire of Francoism.
