«El Gato Montés» is the film by Ernst Lubitsch (1921), starring Pola Negri, Victor Janson and Paul Heidemann, on DVD.
Silent grotesque comedy with an anti-militarist undertone, one of Ernst Lubitsch's last German works. It continues the visual style of The Oyster Princess and The Doll: brilliant humour and extravagant framing that turn the viewer into a voyeur spying on the action like a curious neighbour.
Complete restored version by the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation, with a new soundtrack by Marco Dalpane. Silent, 79 min; subtitles in Spanish, German and Portuguese; PAL multi-region DVD.
Edition from the Orígenes del Cine collection, for those who enjoy silent cinema, classic comedy and Ernst Lubitsch's German filmography.
